Colonial Innkeeper’s Pie

Today I have a colonial era recipes to share.  I found this particular one on Pinterest and have to say it was not what I was expecting but tasted delicious.  Take a peek on the great recipes and try your hand at making your own.




Layer 1

  • 1 pre-made pastry shell
  • 4 ounces of sweet or semi sweet cooking chocolate
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Layer 2

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup of nuts (optional)

Bake at 350 for 55-60 minutes make sure to add a baking sheet under the pie pan to catch overflow.
