Homesteading 101 – Making Laundry Detergent

Laundry Detergent is really expensive now a days.  Just the other day I noticed a container of tide for almost $20 at our local market and if you’re like me and do laundry almost daily you’ll be broke before you know it.  One way I get around the whole laundry detergent using up my entire paycheck is by making my own.

Making laundry detergent is actually much easier then what one would thinking and with a bar of Zote or any bar of laundry soap and some borax you can make yourself enough laundry detergent to last at least a month or two.

1 bar of Zote shredded

1 to 1 1/2 cup of borax

5 gallons of hot/boiling water

a few drops of essential oils (your choice of scent and it’s optional)
