So I’ve decided to take the plunge and transition out of regular pots and pans aka teflon to the more healthy clay and cast iron. Why you ask? Well…
Teflon is Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that has numerous applications. The best-known brand name of PTFE-based formulas is Teflon by DuPont Co., which discovered the compound.
Yup 1/2 of the stuff that makes up Teflon the metal used in most of our cookware I can’t even pronounce. Which to me translates simply to “Poison” yup we are cooking with metals that are not natural and could be affecting our health.
I’m no stranger to cast iron but it can be a bit scary to someone who isn’t sure about how to season and care for these pots. When I was first out on my own I destroyed about 2 cast iron pots and didn’t realize that I didn’t destroy them re-seasoning would have saved them but I didn’t have the knowledge about how to use or care for them, so they ended up at the dump.
But I have to say once you get use to using these pots and cooking in clay your foods will take on a whole new dimension.
I’ll keep you all posted on how my challenge goes and if I break and end up using my favorite pot. In the meantime here’s a little video of my disastrous kitchen and how i’m going to go about doing this.
